Unfortunately, it is very VERY true that a lot of badly written code contributes to bloat

Umm, and? So he doesn't know what he's on about, that doesn;t change the fact that most software nowadays is badly coded and sometimes released before its even finished (Hellgate: London and Fury are two current examples)

Bloat is not the result of hardware manufactures but lazy programmers. Todays processors are so fast there is no need to write clean code. Good hardware has made a slippery slope of crap and vista is a load of shit falling down the hill. The "need" for 4 gigs of ram is not a selling point.
Guild Wars 1 will never die. If vista is the only option for Guild Wars 2 it will die just like vista has.

first off, you have no clue who i am. i had an Apple before i had a PC, and past that, NO company besides drab Linux gives you 0% bloat anything. you have to customize anything if you want it to be optimal, whether its a car, a house, or a computer. please point out features MacX offers that MS doesnt, or better yet, PLEASE show me sales records where Vista is doing poorly, because its common knowledge that MS OWNS in the OS department, and dont whine and give me the "its because its a monopoly" crapola. Apple and Linux have been around for ages, but they're non-compatible, outdated, boring, streamless, and less operator friendly than MS anything. please do point out where you get these magic numbers that Vista was a failure, and that MS is going to ditch it, make service pack 3-3000 for XP, and botch all ideas of ever making another OS.
the ONLY computer i own with 4 GIGS of ram is my G4, which suprise suprise, is a MAC. my H4T is 5 times as fast, sleeker, more attractive, and compatible than my G4, WHICH WAS 4 TIMES AS EXPENSIVE AS MY PC, and runs Premium like a dream. No driver BS that kids talk abotu because they hear daddy mention something he saw on the news, and totally customizable (which i've done plenty, but nothing amazing), for the computer saavy.
Macs are bogged with Apple bloat, and worse than that, hidden ghost Apple files and kernel logins, from the factory, that are next to impossible to get rid of. they're unupgradable for the most part, whereas i have total control of all my parts (which are upgraded, like video/sound cards), and usually lack components (like a good amount of USB, or SD/MS/MMC/XD ect readers.. even HDI/HDTV/Scable ports) that most PCs offer standard. not to mention the ridiculus price for something just.. ok compared to something PC of the same price.
if you're talking about Linux, no one cares tbh. i use Umb on an older Thinkpad of mine, and its fine for that, but its strictly a buisness computer, is boring, and only does simple, drab task. Linux is also NOT recommended for the computer illiterate, and is a real pain in the butt to initially set up. its also not very compatable with a lot of programs on its own.
i've never been a "Window Fanboy" fyi, and i only defend Vista because i use it, i know what it does, and i like it more than the others that i own, use regularly, and have passed judgement on. if you like something more than something else for whatever your reason may be, fine, but dont talk about it out loud, and even bash someone else when you dont even have your facts straight.

Seconded
And I'll even admit, i pirated my Windows XP... I only had Widows 95 and windows 3.11 because they came with my PC's... However I was so impressed with Vista and it was so easy to bloody use and worked first time and in nearly a year has NEVER crashed, that i actually BOUGHT it retail!

Free to play, that is. $200+ bucks was not free. Although with the prices as they are, you can probably get away with getting the three campaigns all under 60 bucks. That's a lot of bang and content for your buck.

Yeah, my point was once you own a Guild Wars product it is free to play...
And therefore people will keep playing the orginal Guild Wars as long as it's around.
There's also the odd chance that some of the HoM rewards will be cool enough to get in Guild Wars to carry over... that could continue interest in the game as well.

I fail to see what's so good about Vista. Care to explain? IMO that's just laggy version of win2k/XP with DX10

Ummm, Magikarp, read PCWorld, Cnet, PcMagazine, et al, lately? listen to the FACT that they are working on a SP3 for XP, because corporations and individuals refuse to buy Vista? Read about how Dell, HP, and Lenovo strong-armed Microsoft into selling them XP for their computers? Read the fact that in Japan, OSX Leopard set record sales? Read how Vista is becoming the new Windows Me? Read about how XP is OUTSELLING Vista?
Do some reading, and get your own facts straight.
dang, this thread is long.

If GW2 is released for Vista only, then Microsoft better get their ass in gear and release one hell of a SP 1.
If SP3 contains most of what my programmer buddies want, then I will be sticking with XP for a while.
My company is waiting for XP SP3 versus Vista SP1 to decide what to switch to when we switch from Norton to Microsoft networking.

You mean that you're not entitled to a subscription fee? Well yeah sure, that's cool, but I don't know of a whole lot of RPG's that aren't free to play.

Very true.
GW1 will, however, reach a point in time where the dev's will not be able to (nor will they have any desire to) continue applying updates or supporting GW1. It is inevitable. *Shrugs* Let us wait and see... I think that GW1 and GW2 will share a parallel fate.
